The South Carolina National Golf Club on Cat Island has been sold for $2 million, according to the bankrupt club's trustee, and the sale is expected to close Friday.
The buyer, London businessman Rick Grant, began negotiating to purchase the club before it went into bankruptcy last fall, according to the trustee, John Curry of Hilton Head Island.
"We are thrilled he's the buyer because we think he'll be the best for the community, the staff and the club," Curry said. "He's got the resources to make needed improvements and to aggressively market the club."
Curry added that Grant has a "very competent" golf consultant who has been working on the purchase. Grant could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
An auction was held earlier this month with a Sept. 14 deadline for bids. Curry said there was "a lot of interest" in the property, but only four qualified bidders made offers. more>
